Apple just announced the next generation Macbook Pro. The notebook boasts a 15.4″ Retina Display and cutting edge hardware, tucked in a body, which is 1.8cm thin (0.71 inches) and weighs only 2kg (4.46 pounds). Naturally, the Retina Display of the newcomer is the biggest attention grabber. The screen sports the mesmerizing resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, which adds up to a pixel density of 220ppi, and a total of 5,184,000 pixels

Apple WWDC is off to a good start and among the first announcements in the event’s keynote speech is the refresh of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineups. Both lineups are getting the latest IvyBridge processors by Intel. And yes, the 17-inch MacBook Pro is getting axed off the production line. The MacBook Airs now can be rigged with processors up to 2.0Ghz dual-core i7 (with Turbo boost up to 3.2Ghz). The RAM options go as high as 8GB and the SSD options reach the spectacular 500GB. That’s 500GB SSD. The read speeds for the SSD drives has gone up to 500Mbps too, so it’s double the one on the current SSD drives used in the Airs. The USB ports on the Air remain two, but they are both USB 3.0 now. Another thing that’s changed that both laptops now use the newer Intel HD Graphics 4000 instead of the previous 3000 model. The front-facing camera has also been updated to 720p allowing FaceTime HD video conversations. The screen resolutions for both the 11-inch and 13-in...

Nvidia officially announces the GTX 680, blows AMD out of the water in benchmarks

After an unofficial  yesterday, the first of the Kepler series of graphics cards, the Nvidia GTX 680, has now been officially announced. This is Nvidia’s flagship graphics card for now and is the fastest they have ever built. It uses the 28nm fabrication process, a first for an Nvidia GPU, along with some other new tech, such as GPU Boost. What GPU Boost does is it automatically increases the clock speed of the GPU when it is under load, from a base clock speed of 1006MHz to 1058MHz to provide better frame rates. But what this feature also does is it reduces the clock speed when the GPU is not being taxed, dropping down all the way to 324MHz during idle

NVIDIA announces GeForce GTX 670

NVIDIA has announced the third graphics card in the Kepler series called the GeForce GTX 670. As you can tell, it sits below the current fastest single GPU graphics card, the GTX 680, and is priced a $100 less at $399. The GTX 670 is meant to compete against AMD’s Radeon HD 7950 The GPU on the GTX 670 is the same 28nm GK104 GPU found on the GTX 680, except it is clocked slightly lower and certain features are toned down to get a slightly lower performance but at the same time, lower power consumption as well

Apple announces the touch sensitive Magic Mouse – works wirelessly

Apple finally went ahead an added a true wireless mouse to their arsenal. Meet the Bluetooth-based Magic Mouse. Since it’s definitely not the first, or not even the hundredth wireless mouse on the market, you may wonder what’s the fuss all about. Well, the thing is that the Magic Mouse is itself touch sensitive supporting touch gestures much like the touchpads of most recent mobile computers. The Magic Mouse has a unibody design that has Apple written all over – but in the good sense, you know. I say that since up until now the mouse peripherals by the company have always been a little less than stellar, to say the least.

New GeForce Beta Driver 296.17 for Windows 8 Consumer Preview

About two weeks ago Microsoft has made available the Windows 8 Consumer Preview for download, so that everyone interested can test the early preview version of the OS and now Nvidia has just released a full set of drivers for all of their GPUs. The just released GeForce Beta Driver 296.17 are available for both GeForce and Quadro GPU-based desktops and notebooks on Nvidia’s website as well as on Microsoft’s Windows Update. Windows 7, vista and Windows XP users aren’t left out either. An equivalent driver, version 296.10 (WHQL-certified) is also available from today with it and the Windows 8 version being a quick refresh in terms of features and support from the recently released version GeForce 295.73 drivers. The new GeForce version 296.10 drivers add 3D Vision support for the following games: Dear Esther – Rated Good and Deep Black: Reloaded – Rated 3D Vision Ready. The new Nvidia Windows 8 video drivers support all the features of the new Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) v1.2 and...

Intel announces 7 new Sandy Bridge CPUs

Intel has just unveiled seven new members of its Sandy Bridge family of CPUs. We got three quad-core desktop processors of the Core i5 variety and four Celeron CPUs meant for use in mobile devices. The first and most powerful of the new processors is Core i5-2550K, which is an unlocked-multiplier CPU with a stock clock speed of 100MHz higher than the i5-2500K. The i5-2550K runs at 3.4GHz, with frequencies of up to 3.8GHz possible with the Turbo boost.

Ubuntu for Android bridges the gap between smartphone and PC

Intel launches its Ivy Bridge processor line-up, leaves dual-core and low-voltage varieties for later

Today,a little ahead of schedule  Intel is launching its Ivy Bridge family of processors. Originally, Intel was supposed to launch the new CPU family on April 29, but after the numerous delays, doing it a bit early won’t hurt anyone.

Intel Core i7-2617M

The Intel Core i7-2617M is a second generation, dual core Intel Core i7 processor that features the Sandy Bridge architecture. It was built through a 32nm manufacturing process and features enhanced performance and greater energy efficiency. Though the reduced instruction-set greatly enhances performance, it’s not the only thing affecting it. There’s also an improved caching system wherein the L3 cache is now shared between both cores. Also featured is an integrated Intel HD graphics chip that performs 2x better than those featured on first-generation Core i7 CPUs. This particular CPU runs at 1.5GHz, but comes with Turbo Boost functionality up to 2.6GHz. The biggest change though from previous generations is the socket, which switches from the standard LGA 1155 to a new FCBGA1023 socket. Note also that this CPU is designed for mobile laptops, and so supports a low voltage TDP. Also, the the i7-2617M can process videos 17x faster, process 3D video over HDMI v1.4.
