The Google Nexus 7 that was announced couple of days ago is currently on pre-order only in black, with reports coming in from Google I/O revealing that some developers got a white Nexus 7 as part of the developer gift pack. However, we got an anonymous tip with a screenshot of the Carphone Warehouse inventory system showing that a brown version of the seven incher might be in the works as well.

Google updates Play Store website, adds remote update and remote uninstall options

The Google Play Store website already offered a super convenient way to just push apps to your device but now Google has taken it a couple of steps further. Google has updated the ‘My Android Apps’, which until now only displayed some of the apps that you have downloaded on your device, to include the option to remotely update apps as well as uninstall them.

This is the new Easter egg in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Google has a traditionally been incorporating an Easter egg inside every version of Android, that can be viewed by repeatedly tapping the Android version number within the Settings app. In Ice Cream Sandwich, you could find the Android Ice Cream Sandwich logo and if you touch and hold it, it would expand and eventually you’d see a Nyan Cat style animation of the logo. In Android 4.1, you see a Jelly Bean with the tell-tale Android antennae on the top and if you press and hold the image, a large number of cel-shaded jelly beans appear on the screen and you can flick them around as much as you like. Apple quietly quits claiming that its Mac OS X is virus proof

This might not be the stuff of major announcements and news releases, but it is likely a bigger deal than many of them. In the stealthiest of all fashions, Apple has quit bragging about the invincibility from computer viruses of the OS X operational system, which powers the giant’s computers. Microsoft to acquire Yammer for $1.2 billion

Microsoft has announced its intention to acquire Yammer for $1.2 billion in cash. The company will be part of the Microsoft Office Division and will be headed by the division President Kurt DelBene. For those who are not aware, Yammer is an enterprise social networking service. Think of it as Facebook for the corporations. The company was started four years ago and currently has 5 million corporate users, which includes employees from 85 percent of the Fortune 500 companies.

Bing Maps gets its largest update to date – 165TB worth of aerial imagery

Bing Maps has received a huge update, amassing a total of 165 terabytes of information and imagery. This is the largest update to the mapping service ever and it’s larger than all of the past Aerial releases combined ! To give you a little perspective the prior existing Aerial coverage of Bing Maps was 129 terabytes in total. The update brings high-quality aerial photos of North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Europe and Asia with the total covered area being around 38 million square kilometers or roughly Russia’s land area multiplied by two plus the whole of India. Pretty impressive stuff
