We already know everything there is to know about the upcoming iOS 6 and let’s face it – it’s not going to be the jump Apple is trying to convince us it is. Everything is pretty much the same, with a few tweaks here and there, an overdue Facebook integration and extended Siri functionality. The major new feature with the iOS 6 is the new Maps app, now with TomTom map data and, of course, the addition of navigation. Well, people do use Siri and navigation for sure, but those people have also been using this same tired iOS interface for 6 years now. They need something new, refreshing and they are not getting it this year. Joost van der Ree published a few inspiring ideas that could easily fit into iOS, boosting the user experience along the way. Some of them are so obvious that makes you wonder why Apple didn’t come up with them in the first place. But maybe they have?

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has just announced the iOS App Store has passed the 30 billion download milestone. Today the App Store has more than 650 000 apps, 225 000 of them specifically designed for the iPads. There are also 400 million App Store accounts from 120 countries around the world with attached credit cards to them.

Apple has released two new updates today, one for OS X Lion and the other for the desktop Safari browser. The OS X update brings Lion to 10.7.4 and includes some crucial security fixes. Recently OS X came under fire when the OS would display FileVault passwords in plain text file for users who upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and kept their FileVault settings. The issue has now been patched in the latest update

  Panasonic continues to expand its Eluga line of droids. The latest addition goes by the name Panasonic Eluga V P-06D, which is on its way to Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. It sits between the (or P-04D as is its NTT DoCoMo name) and the The Eluga V packs a 4.6″ LCD screen with 720p resolution and it’s dust and water resistant, just like its smaller counterpart, though it’s no longer as amazingly thin – its profile measures 10.7mm. Anyway, the Panasonic Eluga V P-06D comes with Android 4.0 out of the box and uses a dual-core 1.5GHz processor (it’s a Cortex-A9 CPU inside a TI OMAP 4460 chipset and not a Krait-packing Snapdragon S4 like the Eluga Power has). It also boasts a gig of RAM and 8GB of built-in memory plus a microSD card slot if you need more

Our friends over at MacRumors did it again. Remember a recent describing a taller iPhone rocking a four-inch display that Apple may or may not have been prototyping for some time? I wasn’t sure about a larger iPhone, but have definitely changed my mind having seen this image. We allknow a biopic based on the life of Steve Jobs is already being made and that Ashton Kutcher has been cast to play Jobs due to Kutcher’s remarkable resemblance to him back when he was young. . TMZ has now acquired photographs of Kutcher on the sets of the movie (which is reportedly being called ‘Jobs: Get Inspired’) dressed in Jobs’ famous blue Levi’s jeans and black turtleneck, which was originally designed by Issey Miyake exclusively for Jobs. And all of this strikes me as a bit odd.

Within a week of Google releasing an update for its iOS mobile app, Facebook too has released an update for its mobile apps and website that changes the way posts are displayed. The posts are no longer displayed in a contiguous manner but instead appear in their own separate boxes. But most importantly, images now appear 3x bigger than before and span from edge to edge. Albums are also bigger now and show thumbnails for the contained images arranged in a single large grid. Apple has announced its financial results for the fiscal second quarter of 2012 that ended in March 31, 2012. Their total revenue for this quarter was $39.2 billion and the quarterly net profit was $11.6 billion. In comparison, the figures were $24.7 billion and $6.0 billion respectively for the same quarter last year. As usual, the iPhone did very well this quarter, with Apple selling 35.1 million of those, up by 88 percent compared to year-ago quarter. Sales were down compared to the first quarter, however, where Apple managed to sell 37.04 million iPhones, the reason for this being chalked down to the holiday season that boosted the sales in the previous quarter

It’s been just a week since Apple announced the new iPad and already we are seeing a decent number of apps optimized for the Retina resolution. In fact, Apple has even created a new category within iTunes that highlight these new apps optimized for the new iPad.Now these aren’t new apps but just ones that have been spruced up to run at a higher resolution. In some cases, such as the Kindle App, it was basically making the text look sharper and in cases of 3D games like Infinity Blade II, the developers would have had to go through a lot more trouble to pour in enough detail to make the game look good enough at that resolution

TVC-Mall has a history of leaking spare parts for still unannounced Apple devices and today it might have spilled the beans on the next iPhone’s home button. Until recently we could see two Home buttons (black and white) in the iPhone 5 Replacement Parts section. Unfortunately the listings are now gone. As you can see on the snatched screenshots, the key is pretty much the same circular thing we are used to see, but the whole part now has slightly rectangular shape. If this is the real deal then the next iPhone won’t drop the Home key as some rumors suggested. As with all rumors and leaked parts, though, you should take it with a healthy pinch of salt.
